Privacy Policy
StairMark is built on a local-first privacy model. Your stair calculations, projects, and measurements are stored locally on your iPhone or iPad and are not sent to StairMark, RevenueCat, or our own servers. There are no StairMark user accounts, no profile tracking, no advertising networks, and no sale of your data.
1. Introduction
This Privacy Policy explains how information is handled when you download, install, and use the StairMark application for iOS (the “App”). StairMark is developed and operated by Joe Walker (“StairMark”, “we”, “us”, or “our”), based in the United Kingdom.
We believe that professional calculation and carpentry tools should respect user privacy. StairMark is intentionally architected as a local-first application designed to function independently on your device without requiring you to register an account or transmit your project data to external StairMark servers.
2. Information StairMark Collects
StairMark does not require or collect any of the following:
- No user accounts, logins, or passwords
- No personal profile information
- No names, email addresses, postal addresses, or telephone numbers
- No location tracking or GPS coordinates
- No access to your contacts, camera, or photo library
- No StairMark-operated database server for your calculation records
You can use StairMark immediately upon installation without providing any identity credentials.
3. Information Stored on the Device
All information that you create or configure in StairMark is stored locally on your iOS device within the sandboxed storage provided by the operating system. This information includes:
- Saved stair calculations, projects, and job titles
- Total rise, total run, tread depth, riser height, and stringer parameters
- Unit preferences (Imperial fractional inches or Metric millimetres)
- Calculation configuration options and default framing preferences
This data remains entirely on your device. We do not have access to, nor do we monitor, inspect, or copy your project files or preference settings.
4. Stair Projects and Calculations
All dimensional calculations—including rise/run equalisation, stringer layout angles, framing-square tongue/blade marks, and generated PDF cut sheets—are computed entirely on-device by your iPhone or iPad processor.
When you export or share a PDF cut sheet, the PDF is created on your device and handed to the standard iOS Share Sheet. The destination of that document (such as AirDrop, Files, Mail, or printing) is determined solely by you.
5. In-App Purchases
StairMark may offer a premium tier known as StairMark Pro. StairMark Pro is sold as a one-time, non-consumable in-app purchase. It is not a subscription. There are no recurring fees or automatic renewals.
All in-app purchases are handled directly through Apple’s In-App Purchase framework. StairMark never receives, processes, or stores your credit card numbers, bank account numbers, or billing addresses. Payment transactions are executed securely by Apple in accordance with Apple’s Privacy Policy.
6. RevenueCat
To manage purchase verification, restore previous purchases across your devices, and validate entitlement status, StairMark uses RevenueCat (RevenueCat, Inc.) as a technical infrastructure service.
Although StairMark does not collect your personal measurements or require an account, network communication between your device and RevenueCat occurs to verify your purchase status. RevenueCat may receive and process:
- An anonymous, randomly generated application user identifier (app user ID)
- App Store transaction identifiers, purchase timestamps, and product IDs (e.g. StairMark Pro entitlement)
- Basic technical device details (such as device model, iOS version, app version, and country code associated with your App Store region)
Important: RevenueCat does not receive your stair measurements, job names, calculation inputs, or cut sheets. Your project data remains strictly local to your device.
For more information on how RevenueCat processes purchase data, please review the RevenueCat Privacy Policy.
7. Apple Services
StairMark is distributed via Apple’s App Store. As an iOS user, your relationship with Apple is governed by Apple’s terms and privacy policies.
If you have opted in to share diagnostic and usage data with app developers through your iOS system settings, Apple provides developers with anonymised crash reports and aggregated performance statistics through App Store Connect. These aggregated reports do not contain personal information or identifiable project measurements.
8. Analytics and Tracking
StairMark does not include any third-party behavioral analytics SDKs (such as Google Analytics, Firebase Analytics, Mixpanel, or Meta Pixel). We do not track your clicks, sessions, in-app navigation, or how often you calculate stringers.
We do not track you across apps or websites owned by other companies, and we do not participate in Apple’s App Tracking Transparency (ATT) advertising framework because we do not perform cross-app tracking.
9. Advertising
StairMark is completely ad-free. We do not display banner advertisements, interstitial ads, video promotions, or sponsored listings. There are no advertising SDKs or tracking pixels embedded in the App. We do not sell, rent, or trade any user information to advertisers or data brokers.
10. Data Sharing
We do not sell your personal data. We only share information with third-party service providers in the limited technical contexts described in this policy:
- Apple: To process payments, verify App Store transactions, deliver app updates, and restore purchases.
- RevenueCat: To validate receipt tokens, activate one-time Pro entitlements, and restore purchases.
- Legal Requirements: If compelled by lawful subpoena, court order, or applicable legal obligation under UK law.
11. Data Retention
Because StairMark does not maintain a user database or central backend for your calculations, we do not retain your project data on our servers. Your project calculations and app settings are retained on your device for as long as you choose to keep the App installed.
Anonymised transaction records and purchase entitlements handled by Apple and RevenueCat are retained in accordance with applicable accounting, tax, fraud-prevention, and legal recordkeeping requirements.
12. Deleting Data
You are in full control of your local data:
- Individual Projects: You can delete saved calculations and project entries directly within the App interface at any time.
- App Deletion: Deleting the StairMark app from your iOS device will permanently delete all locally stored calculation records, preferences, and saved projects, unless your device is restored from an external Apple device backup (such as iCloud Backup or a local Finder/iTunes backup).
Please note that deleting the StairMark app does not automatically delete Apple App Store purchase records or transactional records that RevenueCat or Apple are legally or operationally required to retain. Eligible previous purchases can be restored using the Apple account associated with the original purchase.
13. Security
StairMark relies on the robust security mechanisms provided by Apple’s iOS operating system, including application sandboxing and hardware-accelerated encryption. Any network communication conducted for in-app purchase validation (via Apple and RevenueCat) utilizes industry-standard Transport Layer Security (TLS/HTTPS) encryption.
14. Children’s Privacy
StairMark is a construction and carpentry calculation tool intended for tradespeople, contractors, carpenters, and adult DIY builders. The App does not knowingly solicit or collect personal information from children under the age of 13 (or under the applicable age of digital consent in your jurisdiction).
15. International Processing
StairMark is developed in the United Kingdom. Services used for purchase validation (such as Apple and RevenueCat) may operate servers and data infrastructure in the United States and other international jurisdictions. By purchasing StairMark Pro, you acknowledge that transaction validation tokens may be processed internationally by these infrastructure partners in accordance with applicable data protection safeguards.
16. User Rights
Depending on your location (including the United Kingdom under the UK GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018, and the European Economic Area under the EU GDPR), you may have statutory rights regarding personal data, including the right of access, rectification, erasure, and restriction.
Because StairMark does not hold user accounts or store personal calculation data on its servers, the most effective way to exercise control over your data is directly within the App on your device (e.g. deleting calculations or uninstalling the App). For inquiries regarding purchase receipts or Apple ID data, requests should be directed through Apple’s Data and Privacy portal at privacy.apple.com.
17. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect operational, legal, or regulatory updates, or changes to the App’s functionality. When changes are published, we will revise the “Last Updated” date at the top of this document. Any updated policy will be posted at this URL.
